Working At Height Training
Why train?
If your organisation engages in any form of working at height then you have a legal obligation to provide your staff with the correct training.
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 places a duty on the employer to provide an adequate level of training to allow employees to operate equipment safely and competently. Your business will also benefit from an enhanced company reputation, as well as improved development, morale and productivity of your workplace.
What / Where is classed as "Work at Height?"
A place is 'at height' if a person could be injured falling from it, even it is is at or below ground level. 'Work' includes moving around at a place of work. For instance, a sales assistant on a stepladder would be working at height, but the Regulations would not apply to a mounted police officer on patrol.
Who does the Working at Height Regulations apply to?
The Work at Height Regulations 2005 apply to all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury. They place duties on employers, the self-employed and any person who controls the work of others, e.g. facilities managers or building owners who may contract others to work at height.
It's the Law
As an employer, it is not just a requirement but a duty in law to provide adequate training for your employees. If this is not adhered to you may become liable to prosecution which can lead to loss of business, heavy fines and even imprisonment.
